So if I don't want people in basketball just driving the ball right through me what exercises or what should I do to prevent that from happening?

I play basketball and some of things that helped me become a better and faster defensive player was to do different drills on a ladder. The faster you are able to move your feet in different directions, the faster you will be able to play side-to-side defense. Another drill that can help you is to do defensive step slides zig zagging up and down the court, or slide as fast as you can for about 30sec from one side of the key to the other (block to block). Whatever drill you do, be sure to have your hands up, and don't cross your feet while sliding. Hope this helps!

Another area you should develop is your footwork. Calisthenics everyday can improve your lateral movements and agility. Try skipping rope and several calisthenic techniques which you can also watch in youtube video tutorials. Keep your legs tight and healthy. Once your legs are hurt, especially your knees and ankle, it will affect your overall performance. A lot of pro ballers' careers ended because of this kind of injury. And dancing can help too! Yup, it's true, it'll work out your defensive skills and flexibility on the court. Best Sam-e

Try learning how to dribble, and then just be sure to watch their movements and to know what they are doing so always try to be one step ahead of them :]
